Prospective Labour Candidates Back Parents Call For Action On Speeding Outside South Hornchurch School
Prospective Labour councillor candidates Eric Sheqi and Karen Bemard have met with concerned parents at Scargill Infant School, as well as nearby residents, amid growing fears over speeding putting children’s lives at risk.
Despite Havering emphasising the benefits of walking, wheeling, scooting and cycling to and from school, parents have told Eric and Karen that many of them are afraid that their child will be the one
involved in an accident.
In response, Eric Sheqi and Karen Bernard have launched an in-person petition calling for Havering Council to take immediate and decisive action, including the installation of speed enforcement cameras
and other traffic calming measures.
Speaking to the Havering Daily, Eric Sheqi said: “The residents of Mungo Park Road are extremely worried about the speeding on their road and the danger it poses to children. No one wants to be in a situation where a child’s life is lost before action is taken. That is why I am calling on Havering Council
to take action.” Karen Bernard added “I want children to walk to school safely, and the best way to ensure that is to keep our roads safe. We will keep pressing for the voice of parents and residents to be heard on this issue.”
