Proflific Rainham Shoplifter Banged Up After String of Offences.
A prolific shoplifter who plagued Rainham businesses has been jailed following a series of thefts across the town.
William Reitz, 30, of Kent View, Rainham, appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Tuesday 23 September, where he was found guilty of nine counts of shoplifting and one count of criminal damage.
The offences took place in retail premises along Mungo Park Road, Rainham, causing disruption and frustration for both local businesses and residents. Reitz was handed an 11-month custodial sentence.
Well known to police in the area, Reitz’s offending spree over a short period had made him a familiar face to shopkeepers.
Inspector Connolly and Sergeant Basit told the Havering Daily: “Any criminal behaviour such as this and prolific thieves such as Reitz will be dealt with swiftly and removed from our streets. Havering Safer Neighbourhoods will continue to drive down offending with our partners. This sentence should serve as a message to those coming to the area that we will not tolerate any criminality such as this. I encourage all residents to sign up to Met Engage to have the opportunity to have direct contact with your Safer Neighbourhood Teams.”
The sentencing highlights the ongoing efforts of Havering’s Safer Neighbourhood Teams, who are working with local partners to crack down on repeat offenders and reassure the community.
