Following yesterday’s article in the Havering Daily on the waterlogged underpass in Romford repeatedly flagged up by Councillor David Taylor, Havering’s Council Leader Ray Morgon writes:

I am aware of the recent comments made by Cllr David Taylor regarding the flooding at the North Street subway, and I must address both the facts and the tone of the accusations.

First and foremost, Havering Council takes the safety and wellbeing of our residents extremely seriously.

The Council is fully aware of the flooding in the North Street subway and is actively investigating the causes, working closely with our contractor to resolve the issue as swiftly as possible.

We understand the disruption this causes to pedestrians and are exploring solutions to ensure public safety is not compromised.

I must rebut the accusation that the Council and the HRA administration are being “dangerously irresponsible”.

Such language is not only unhelpful but also undermines the collaborative efforts required to address complex local issues.

Rather than playing politics, I would urge Cllr Taylor to work constructively with the Council and the HRA to resolve these matters for the benefit of all residents. Our focus must remain on practical solutions and partnership, not point-scoring.
