Residents living near Petersfield Avenue yesterday celebrated a petition win. A planning application to build six homes at the rear of 55-57 Petersfield Avenue was refused.

The petition was led by community champion Jan Sargent, Councillor Paul McGeary and Jo Cunningham
It received over six hundred signatures and had fantastic community support.

Petitioners felt that the development posed a direct threat to privacy and leading to overcrowding. The construction would have negatively affected residents’ access to their private garages as the access road from Petersfield Avenue is already extremely narrow. There was also a real concern that some trees in the adjoining Ancient Woodland might have been removed, due to the proximity of the proposed development.
The petition recommended that the local authority refuse this planning application P0162.25 and suggested that the applicant explore alternative sites for development that do not endanger valuable green spaces or negatively impact residents’ quality of life.

Well done to all involved.
