Following a substantial period of time last year when residents of Duxbury House on Beam Park were left without a working lift, residents have once again been forced to reach out to their local councillors after a series of dangerous incidents in the last few weeks.

A resident from Crestline House contacted Councillors Trevor Mckeever and Matt Stanton after she become stranded in one of the lifts, twice in one week. The councillors are now seeking to hear from other residents who have been similarly affected.

“Unfortunately, what we found was a pattern of recurring faults in different blocks”, said Cllr Mckeever. “From lifts dropping multiple floors, persons becoming stuck, and generally patchy and unreliable service. Our residents deserve better and we have told L&Q as much.”

Cllr Stanton added that while L&Q had informed them that the lifts were checked monthly, this doesn’t seem to be increasing the reliability of the service for residents, ‘We have several residents for whom it is only practical to live at height if the lifts are working. If L&Q and other developers want to push tower block living onto us, they need to do their bit to make it reliable, safe, and pleasant’.

The Beam Park Cllrs have written to L&Q asking for further detail and assurances on the inspection and maintenance of the lifts on the development.
