Havering residents say the borough is being brought to a standstill, with Gallows Corner delays and new roadworks leaving daily journeys in chaos.

The infamous Gallows Corner flyover, originally built as a “temporary” structure more than fifty years ago is under refurbishment, but locals fear just how long the work will now last as no completion date is set.

Yesterday, frustration boiled over in Harold Hill when Noak Hill Road was reduced to half its size after emergency gas works by Cadent. With half the road taken up by crews, drivers were left fuming in queues that stretched for miles.

Residents say it’s now becoming impossible to get around Havering without being caught up in traffic misery. “It feels like wherever you go there’s a diversion, temporary lights or a closure. Journeys that should take minutes are dragging into hours,” said one local driver.

While people understand repairs and upgrades are necessary, many argue the timing and sheer volume of works are tipping Havering into gridlock. Until the projects are completed, it seems residents will be stuck in emergency gas works, water works and a never ending list of road works and of course, endless jams.
