Cabinet Members have considered the Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plans (CAAMPs) for Romford, Rainham and Gidea Park at this week’s Cabinet meeting yesterday, Wednesday 17 September.

These revised appraisals mark another positive step in preserving Havering’s rich architectural and historic heritage.

Originally adopted in 2008, the CAAMPs have been comprehensively reviewed and updated in collaboration with heritage consultants, Purcell, to make sure they reflect current planning policy and community priorities.

The updated documents aim to:

– Strengthen protections against unsympathetic development in Conservation Areas

– Update Conservation Area boundaries for Romford, Rainham and Gidea Park

– Provide clear heritage guidance

– Celebrate the unique character of each area

Extensive public consultation was held earlier this year, allowing residents and stakeholders to contribute their views. The feedback from these has helped to shape the final proposals being considered by Cabinet.

Councillor Graham Williamson, Cabinet Member for Development and Regeneration, said:

“If approved by Cabinet, the updated CAAMPs will help to guide future development and conservation efforts, helping to safeguard Havering’s historic environments for generations to come.

“We are ultimately looking to update all our 11 existing Conservation areas and a further three (Langtons, Havering-atte-Bower and RAF Hornchurch) will be next.

“I’d like to thank everyone for taking the time to contribute to these proposals.”
