Following a consultation earlier in the year, Havering has now been included in the TfL Superloop. SL12 Express will now go from Gants Hill through to Rainham. The consultation ran from March until May, as TfL revealed plans to expand the Superloop express bus network to include Havering.

Plans are now underway to launch SL13, as the consultation started on Wednesday 10 September, with consultations to begin shortly for SL 14 and 15.

  • The SL12 route, which will run as an express service with limited stops between Gants Hill and Ferry Lane in Rainham via Romford, will provide Londoners with another sustainable transport option, improving journey times and providing quicker orbital connections between local centres, railway stations and hospitals.
  • The consultation found that 79 per cent of respondents stated that the new route would be more convenient and 69 per cent would switch to using a bus from a car.
  • This means that a bus route will go into Ferry Lane Industrial Estate for the first time, supporting workers who need to travel to and from this area, as well as a direct bus connection between King George Hospital and Queen’s Hospital.
  • The SL12 will also create direct journey links between key destinations in north-east and east London and will operate alongside other local bus routes, including popular routes into Ilford, Barkingside and Rainham, as well as quicker access to the Elizabeth line and London Underground stations and the existing SL2 at Gants Hill.
  • Thanks to the Mayor’s Hopper fare, customers can take advantage of unlimited journeys within an hour for just £1.75.

“Work is now underway to get the SL12 up and running for customers with the aim of launching in 2026. As always, we’ll continue to monitor travel patterns to ensure the network meets local demand.”
