Elm Park saw a truly remarkable day on Saturday as award-winning takeaway The Fat Pizza sold 500 pizzas for just £1 each — and then kept on going.

Ripu and Sunny, the well-known faces behind the Elm Park favourite, organised the giveaway as a way of thanking the community and supporting local people during challenging times. True to form, their generosity didn’t stop at pizzas. Alongside the freshly baked slices, they handed out free drinks and desserts to the long queues that stretched across the day.

From 12pm until 4pm, Elm Park was buzzing. What was meant to be 500 pizzas quickly became far more, as the team carried on tirelessly, ensuring nobody went without food. By the end of the afternoon, hundreds more people had enjoyed a pizza for just £1 thanks to Ripu and Sunny’s hard work and big hearts.

Local representatives turned out in force to show their support. Member of Parliament Margaret Mullane joined councillors Graham Williamson, Matt Stanton, and Julie Wilkes at the event, praising the couple’s extraordinary community spirit.

The biggest surprise of the day came when Havering’s Mayor, Councillor Sue Ospreay, arrived unannounced to present Ripu and Sunny with a Mayor’s Merit Award — a token of appreciation for their outstanding dedication to the community.

This is no ordinary takeaway. The Fat Pizza has firmly established itself as a pillar of Elm Park, reaching out time and again to support local people and provide for those in need. Saturday’s event was more than a giveaway — it was a celebration of kindness, generosity, and the strength of community spirit in Havering.
