Pensioners in Elm Park are being urged to stay vigilant after a 77-year-old man was robbed of his chain in a vicious attack on Saturday.

The victim was walking home from the shops along Warren Drive shortly after 10am when he was approached by a woman asking for directions. As he tried to walk away, the woman continued to talk to him before suddenly pushing him to the ground, causing him to hit his head on a wall. She then grabbed his arm, snatched his chain, and fled the scene in a waiting car.

The pensioner was left badly shaken, with bruises across his body and finger marks on his arm.

It is believed that this is the third such incident in the Elm Park area. In each case, the suspect is said to target elderly residents by engaging them in conversation before forcefully stealing their jewellery.

The woman is described as Eastern European, and in all three reported incidents she has made off quickly after the robbery in a vehicle.

Residents are being urged to remain cautious, especially pensioners walking alone in Elm Park.

Police enquiries are ongoing.
