Harold Hill’s Most Spectacular Event Yet: Havering Police’s Community Fun Day Brings Thousands Together
Harold Hill witnessed its most spectacular event to date this weekend as the Harold Hill Community Fun Day, run by Havering Police, brought thousands of residents together on a hot and sunny Saturday. The atmosphere was electric, and the event proved to be nothing short of amazing.
The Fun Day formed part of the Clear, Hold, Build Project and was organised by Chief Inspector Routley and his dedicated team of officers. Stalls and activities showcased the very best of community spirit, with organisations including Sue Hedges from the Ricky Hayden Memorial raising awareness in the battle against knife crime, Youth Unity highlighting their vital work with young people, St John Ambulance, and Deer Aid, run by Harold Hill’s very own community champion Jan Sargent.
Adding to the festivities, Ripu from The Fat Pizza made a special appearance, donating free pizzas to residents. Ripu and Sunny, well known across Havering for their generosity, have become true local heroes thanks to their endless support for the community.
Havering’s Mayor, Councillor Sue Ospreay, joined the celebrations and took on a very special mission. Eleven-year-old Tommy Weedon, who featured in The Havering Daily last week, has been raising money for Alopecia UK by completing 131 star jumps every day. On Saturday, Tommy performed his jumps in front of the crowds and was joined by three enthusiastic police officers who joined in the challenge.
The highlight of the day came when Mayor Sue Ospreay called Tommy to the stage and presented him with a Mayor’s Merit Award for his incredible fundraising efforts — a moment that received huge applause from the crowd.
The event also featured a special flyover from the National Police Air Service helicopter, who even landed for a while, as police officers mingled with residents, chatting with families and giving children the chance to meet officers in person.
This was truly community policing at its very best — a day filled with fun, positivity, and connection. Harold Hill families enjoyed a day to remember, and huge credit goes to Chief Inspector Routley and his team for delivering an event that celebrated the very best of community spirit.
