Only with appropriate support can all children thrive in an ableist education system – one that simply isn’t designed to meaningfully include all children.
It is with this truth in mind that Havering parent-carers have written to all three of our MPs in Havering, urging each of them to attend an important debate in Parliament at 16:30 on 15 September 2025.
This debate will be crucial for disabled children in Havering. It directly concerns the retention of their legal rights to assessment and statutory support in education according toThe Children and Families Act 2014 , and came off the back of this petition:

Havering parent-carers are attending an accompanying rally in Parliament Square Garden and welcome others in Havering to join. Parent-carers, educators and supporters alike are warmly invited to post in this Facebook group if they would like to travel together, especially if it’s their first protest!

Here in Havering, parent-carers are among those on the front line of the hardship, poverty, stigma and outright prejudice that are built into our health, social care and education systems.
We have seen locally proposals to cuts SEND provision have been repackaged and presented to vulnerable parents and carers, impacting disabled children who are routinely politically scapegoated for the sake of severely slashed local authority budgets.
Enough is enough and it’s time to stand up for our children’s basic rights to assessment and appropriate support in education.
Details of the protest below:
‘Join us for the Fight for Ordinary SEND Rally – a peaceful public gathering for every family affected by the SEND crisis.
This is a chance to stand together in Parliament Square Garden right outside the people who need to hear us most. We will be joined by speakers SEND families and supporters from across the country to demand change that actually works for disabled children.
Whether you are a parent carer educator or ally your voice matters. Bring your placards your stories and your passion.
