Reed Pond Walk Copse Dedicated as Havering’s Newest Village Green
On Saturday afternoon, residents, councillors and supporters gathered for a special ceremony to dedicate the copse on Reed Pond Walk as Havering’s newest protected Village Green. The event saw a strong turnout from the local community, including some who had moved away but returned especially to witness the dedication.
The ceremony marked the 9th Village Green in Havering to be granted protected status. This designation ensures the land can only ever be built upon through an Act of Parliament, safeguarding it for generations to come.

The Copse itself is a much-loved haven for local wildlife, with birds, squirrels and even deer known to visit the area. Its protection as a Village Green will ensure that this natural habitat continues to thrive.

The celebration had a distinctly community feel, with residents putting on a generous spread of cakes, sausage rolls, and other refreshments for those attending.
Havering Residents Association’s Marshall & Rise Park Team – Cllr Philippa Crowder, Cllr Robby Misir and Rob Chesney, were please to see the local residents joining the village Green Dedication.
Cllr Philippa Crowder said: “This is a wonderful day for our community. Protecting this green space ensures that residents now and in the future will always have access to nature here at Reed Pond Walk. It was fantastic to see so many people come together to celebrate – it shows just how much this space means to local families. I would like to thank Linda & Ray Jupp, who were very instrumental in helping her put the event on yesterday.”
The dedication of Reed Pond Walk Copse continues the Havering Residents Association’s tradition of preserving the boroughs much-loved open spaces, reinforcing the borough’s reputation as one of the greenest in London.
