Havering Council Leader Happy For Residents To Fly Their Flags As Long As they Don’t Pose Health And Safety issues.
Residents living on Beehive Court In Harold Wood, were unhappy that the Cross of St George Flag they placed at their residential home, was removed by a council official, two weeks ago.
The angry residents wrote to the Member of Parliament For Romford, Andrew Rosindell MP, to help them resolve the situation.
Residents stated: “We have been proudly flying The Cross of St George at our sheltered housing complex and were ordered to take it down by a council officer. His excuse was it was a fire risk, but there are lots of things at this complex that are not fire compliant.
“We are very upset.”
In response Mr Rosindell said: “This is completely unacceptable. The residents of Beehive Court are entitled to display the Cross of St George if they want to.
“A council bureaucrat should not be dictating to residents in this way.”
Councillor Ray Morgon, Leader of Havering Council, told the Havering Daily:
“Like our residents, this administration is patriotic and we proudly fly the Union Jack and St George’s flag from the Town Hall.
“Our policy is that people can fly their flags if they so wish, as long as it does not pose a health and safety risk.
“I am aware of this issue and I have asked our officers to look into this.
“If there is no health and safety risk then the residents arewelcome to put their flags up.”
