Andrew Rosindell MP the Member of Parliament for Romford and Julia Lopez MP the Member of Parliament for Hornchurch and Upminster, have both expressed their concerns and unhappiness at the news that the major refurbishment works on the Gallows Corner junction are facing delays and will not be finished in September, the given date.

Mr Rosindell issued a statement criticising the ongoing delays of the Gallows Corner flyover, describing the situation as “unacceptable” and “deeply disappointing.”

“The unacceptable delays to the completion of the Gallows Corner flyover refurbishment have caused immense frustration across and beyond our community. Our fears have, regrettably, been realised,” Mr Rosindell said.

He expressed concern over the impact on local residents and businesses, stating:
“Despite repeated assurances from Transport for London (TfL), the ongoing closure of this vital junction has caused immense disruption to our community. Local businesses are suffering, residents are facing longer and more stressful journeys, and the economic damage is mounting by the day. I have been inundated with correspondence from local residents expressing their frustration at these delays and I wholeheartedly share their views.”

Mr Rosindell emphasised the strategic importance of the junction:
“If Gallows Corner were a minor piece in Havering’s transport infrastructure, the delays could perhaps be justified. However, this sticking plaster flyover is a vital artery in ‘Greater London’s’ connectivity with Essex, linking the capital of our great nation to the communities that surround it. The decision to close the entire junction to general traffic since June has had a devastating impact, and while we recognise the complexity of the engineering works involved, the lack of urgency and foresight in managing this project is deeply disappointing, especially given we have been waiting for these changes for over fifty years.”

Calling for accountability, Mr Rosindell added:
“TfL must be held accountable for the consequences of these delays. The people of Havering deserve better. I will continue to press for answers and demand that every possible measure is taken to expedite the completion of the works and restore normality to our roads and our local economy.”

He concluded with a call to action:
“We cannot allow this situation to continue unchecked. I stand with our local businesses and residents in calling for immediate action.”

Julia Lopez has also hit out at the delays and said:

“Residents have endured months of disruption at Gallows Corner as the important and necessary flyover replacement works have taken place. They will understandably be extremely frustrated by news of these delays, particularly with the school holidays ending soon ending and costs to businesses adding up.

They deserve a clear and honest update on how long these works will now take and what steps are being taken to minimise further inconvenience. I have asked Essex & Suffolk Water to set out exactly what has gone wrong, how they are addressing it and whether more resources are being mobilised to speed up the job.”
