YMCA Romford is inviting local residents, stakeholders and the wider community to attend a public consultation event to discuss exciting redevelopment plans for its Rush Green Road site.

For more than 100 years, YMCA Romford has been at the heart of the local community, providing safe housing for young people experiencing homelessness, supporting families, and delivering inclusive health and wellbeing programmes for people of all ages.

The charity is now preparing for the next stage of its long-term vision. Plans are being brought forward for a new six-storey brick building fronting Rush Green Road, offering around 190 modern ensuite rooms with high-quality facilities for residents. The proposals also include a flexible ground floor space, including studio areas for public and resident use; enhanced landscaping and outdoor amenity areas; and reconfigured parking along Rush Green Road.

This development marks Phase 1 of a wider programme of improvements at YMCA Romford, with Phase 2 set to refurbish and update existing facilities over the next five years. A planning application is expected to be submitted in early 2026.

The consultation event is an opportunity for the public and community representatives to view the early designs, ask questions and share their feedback.

Attendees will have the chance to speak directly with representatives from YMCA Thames Gateway Group, alongside project partners Waugh Thistleton Architects, Be First Planning Consultants, MRG Landscape Architects, and TTP Transport Consultants.

There will be no formal agenda, and visitors are welcome to drop in at any point during the two sessions.

For those unable to attend, feedback can be shared via email at TGGcomms@ymcatg.org. The proposed scheme will also be available to view online at ymcatg.org/romford-redevelopment/.Event details:
