Chair Of Rainham Health Centre Patients Group Raises Concerns Over Health Centre On Upminster Road South.
The Chair of Rainham Health Centre Patients Participation Group, Fay Hough, has raised concerns regarding the situation at Rainham Health Centre in Upminster Road South.
“Patients received a letter at the beginning of August regarding the closure of Upminster Medical centre (which Rainham Health Centre merged with a few years ago) which will see 700+ patients come over to RHC making our surgery list over 7000 registered patients. This is a very large amount for one small surgery still looking for owners after ELFT announced their pending departure” Fay told the Havering Daily.
In the letter that patients received it states that as of the 30th of September East London NHS Foundation Trust will no longer hold the contract for Rainham Health Centre. It states that a temporary provider will be put in place to continue providing services whilst the procurement process is still ongoing. The Rainham Health Centre Patient Participation Group (PPG) arranged a “join the PPG event” this past week in which a member of staff from ELFT attended. This member of staff stated that it may be possible that ELFT will stay on and continue running the surgery, however the letter states differently as does the last PPG meeting in which ELFT categorically stated they will be gone.
“This uncertainty is the last thing that patients need, and Rainham residents need to be at the top of someone’s list for once. Hornchurch got a shiny new hub, while Elm Park lost their clinic and Rainham Health Centre is still in limbo” said Fay.
Rainham Health Centre’s PPG are publicly calling for Havering’s Integrated Care Board and NHS England to put an end to this five year nightmare and find a permanent provider, so all patients can receive the care and service they so rightly deserve.
“This is a building with so much potential for health education and outreach, and the new provider needs to be prepared to proactively work to keep people healthier for longer” Fay concluded, “We need a provider that’s committed to the area”.
