Get Voting For Our Cinema!
Lumiere Romford, the new independent cinema that has quickly become a cornerstone of the community, has been shortlisted for the prestigious British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) Cinema of the Year, a remarkable achievement for a venue that has been open for just five months. The cinema is now calling on the local community and film lovers across the UK to help them win this coveted award by casting their vote.
A vote for Lumiere Romford is a vote for the future of independent cinema in the UK. It is a testament to the power of community action in saving beloved local picture houses and a beacon of hope for hundreds of closed cinemas nationwide. The success of Lumiere demonstrates that a cinema can thrive without a large corporate entity, relying instead on the passion and dedication of its community.
“We may not be your regular cinema, or even your favourite,” says the Lumiere Romford team, “but we’d really appreciate your support. A vote for Lumiere gives hope to hundreds of shuttered cinemas across the UK it shows there doesn’t need to be a big corporate vehicle to make a cinema work and that communities can rise up, like we did here in Romford and save their beloved picture houses.”
Lumiere Romford has distinguished itself through its diverse and inclusive programming, its commitment to the local community, and its celebration of film in all its forms.
Here are just a few reasons why Lumiere deserves your vote:
* Community-Focused and Inclusive: Lumiere provides more relaxed screenings for individuals with autism or dementia than any other cinema within the M25 and has ambitious plans to create the most neuro-diverse screen in the UK. They also offer free movies for the over 60s every Thursday morning and parent and baby sessions every Monday.
* Championing Independent and Diverse Film: Since opening, Lumiere has shown an impressive 87% of BIFA’s indie film list and champions both independent and foreign language film alongside mainstream cinema. The cinema programs five movies on their release date each week that rarely make it out of Leicester Square. It also shows 25 classic movies each month (films from 2020 backwards).
* A Hub for the Community: The cinema offers its space for community groups to use regularly and has hosted a wide range of events, including for the NHS’s Refugee Week, the Polish Film Festival, New City College end of year presentation and awards the upcoming Havering Small Business Awards and the Romford Film Festival.
* Driven by the Community, for the Community: As a registered charity, Lumiere is committed to using its profits to improve the space for everyone. The cinema’s staff live in the community, and programming decisions are based on local feedback, with the cinema finding ways to screen 90% of all requests received.
The success of Lumiere Romford’s membership model, which is approaching 4,000 members, and its ability to cover all overheads with only 1% occupancy just four months after opening, is a testament to the community’s embrace of this new venture.
The team at Lumiere Romford is asking for just two minutes of your time to vote for them and help put Romford’s vibrant new cinema on the national stage. In return, they promise to continue building on their commitment to create a truly exceptional cinema for the community.
