Lumiere Romford, the new independent cinema that has quickly become a cornerstone of the community, has been shortlisted for the prestigious British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) Cinema of the Year, a remarkable achievement for a venue that has been open for just five months. The cinema is now calling on the local community and film lovers across the UK to help them win this coveted award by casting their vote.

 * Community-Focused and Inclusive: Lumiere provides more relaxed screenings for individuals with autism or dementia than any other cinema within the M25 and has ambitious plans to create the most neuro-diverse screen in the UK. They also offer free movies for the over 60s every Thursday morning and parent and baby sessions every Monday.

 * Championing Independent and Diverse Film: Since opening, Lumiere has shown an impressive 87% of BIFA’s indie film list and champions both independent and foreign language film alongside mainstream cinema. The cinema programs five movies on their release date each week that rarely make it out of Leicester Square. It also shows 25 classic movies each month (films from 2020 backwards).

 * A Hub for the Community: The cinema offers its space for community groups to use regularly and has hosted a wide range of events, including for the NHS’s Refugee Week, the Polish Film Festival, New City College end of year presentation and awards the upcoming Havering Small Business Awards and the Romford Film Festival.
