Last week over 50 local businesses across Dagenham have taken petitions and posters, joining the campaign launched by Margaret Mullane MP to save the front counter at Dagenham Police Station. With over 500 signatures in the first week, the Labour MPs campaign is going from strength to strength.

Margaret Mullane MP told the Havering Daily: “When police visibility is low our local high streets suffer. Every small business my team and I have spoken to this week have been very concerned about the prospect of losing the front counter at Dagenham Police Station. We have been here before and, in 2013 and 2017, together we managed to protect the last place to physically report crime in my constituency. Like the previous two campaigns, I will fight this all the way.”

You can sign the petition online here: https://www.margaretmullane.co.uk/dagenham-police-station-petition

This week the Leader of Barking and Dagenham Council, Cllr Dominic Twomey, and City and East London Assembly Member Unmesh Desai both threw their weight behind the campaign.

Margaret added: “Support is building for the campaign, which is fantastic, as it will take voices from every part of our community alongside local representatives to overturn this proposal. You can now sign the petition in your local shop, sign and share it online, and in the coming days my team and I will be out and about speaking to residents across Dagenham.”

If you would like to be an active part of the campaign you can request a campaign pack to collect signatures down your street (available from Tuesday 12th August) by emailing andrew.achilleos@parliament.uk
