Officers urge residents to please report crimes via 101 and not on social media.

On Monday 6 August, residents reported the break- in of a van, with two men believed to have been seen stealing tools from the vehicle. The incident happened on Elmhurst Drive, Hornchurch, around lunchtime.Officers attended within minutes and a search was started. Checks and patrols took place throughout the day to find the two thieves, this included further high visibility patrols by local Safer Neighbourhood Teams.

There was no trace of the two suspects.

There was also a search for the victim and the van which proved negative, with further CCTV enquiries with multiple neighbours and the owner of the BT van which was believed broken into. All of this was negative with no victims coming forward and no venues or vehicles identified within this vicinity as stolen from or broken into. This included the BT Van.

The police have also not had any further reports overnight of tools being stolen or vehicles being broken into.

Officers are also asking all residents and owners of vehicles within the vicinity to remain vigilant and report suspicious behaviour to 101 and any crime taking place to 999.

Reporting a believed crime on social media is not the correct method. If a victim of crime does not report the crime to the police then there is no way for them to record this as a crime.
