On Wednesday 23 July, at the full council meeting, the Rush Green and Crowlands Conservative Action Team- Councillor Viddy Persaud, Mick Slaughter and Cllr. Tim Ryan handed in a petition signed by residents of Pretoria and Palm Road, urging the council to take action on speeding by introducing traffic calming measures, but only after proper consultation with the residents.

The petition highlights growing concerns from local residents about the persistent issue of speeding vehicles along both roads, which they say puts pedestrians, children, and cyclists at risk. While there is strong support for safety improvements, residents are clear that any measures must be shaped by local input.

Speaking after the meeting, Cllr. Viddy Persaud said:
“This petition sends a clear message: residents want action on speeding, but they also want to be part of the solution. Traffic calming measures must be introduced with the support and feedback of those who live on these streets and deal with these dangers every day.”

Cllr. Tim Ryan, who supported the submission, added:
“Pretoria and Palm Road residents know their neighbourhoods best. We’re calling on the council to listen, consult meaningfully, and work with the community to design measures that are effective, sensible, and supported locally.”

The Conservative Action Team has pledged to continue backing residents in their call for both safer streets and respectful engagement from the council.

Mick Slaughter, Councillor Viddy Persaud and Councillor Tim Ryan.
