The Greener Futures programme led by South Hornchurch Councillor Natasha Summers, provided advice and guidance to 125 businesses in Havering and has been instrumental in fostering sustainable practices and environmental stewardship among local businesses. The programme provided a wealth of free resources to support businesses in their sustainability journey. These resources included e-learning sustainability training, decarbonisation training, a carbon calculator, one-to-one coaching, a Decarbonisation Advice Directory, and marketing materials and support. Each of these resources played a crucial role in equipping businesses with the knowledge and tools needed to reduce their carbon footprint and promote eco-friendly practices. The positive impact of the Greener Futures programme is evident in the enthusiastic participation and dedication of Havering businesses. By committing to sustainability, these businesses are not only contributing to the wellbeing of our community but also setting an example for others to follow. Their efforts are helping to create a greener, more sustainable future for all.

The Schools Travel Conference made a triumphant return this year, marking its first gathering since the pandemic. Traditionally held annually, this recent event brought together representatives from up to 45 Havering schools, creating a vibrant and collaborative atmosphere. The highlight of the conference was the presentations by four schools, each accompanied by their TfL Travel Ambassadors. Around 24 pupils from Havering showcased their innovative ideas and projects, demonstrating their commitment to improving school travel. The conference also featured esteemed speakers from Cycle Confident, the London Transport Museum, and senior Havering officers. Their insights and expertise provided valuable perspectives on the broader picture of school travel, particularly in the context of education, public health, and climate change. The focus of the 2025 conference was to explore how school travel can be integrated into these critical areas, emphasising the importance of sustainable and healthy travel options for students. The event was a resounding success, fostering collaboration and inspiring new initiatives to enhance school travel in Havering.

Havering Council received UKSPF funding from the UK Government, the Mayor of London and National Highways to conduct an ancient and veteran tree survey and created a map of these living legends in locations across the borough. Protecting these trees is crucial for biodiversity, carbon capture, soil conservation, cultural connection, and mental and physical health. Go to our website for a link to the map where you can explore royal hunting forests, medieval deer parks, historic wood pastures, ancient wooded commons and old hedgerows.
