On Friday 11 July, regular attendees of the Havering Museum s Reminiscence Group had a visit from members of the St Edward’s and St Alban’s Safer Neighbourhood Team.  Pictured here (left to right) are PCSO Ann Passmore and PCSO Sue Sullivan, with Ellen Owen, the event facilitator in the middle holding the free booklets on how to spot and avoid being a victim of Cyber Scams and Scams.

This week’s topic was Havering’s Lost Shop, a wonderful trip down memory lane. The Reminiscence Group meets at Havering Museum, 19-21 High Street, on Friday afternoons, between 13:30 and 15:30 and is led by volunteers Ellen Owen, Dawn Cunningham-Clayton and John Lynch.  The weekly events have been running successfully for 15 years and are designed for local people to meet and share their memories in a welcoming and creative environment. Their knowledge sharing has over the years enriched our local heritage knowledge. The group is mostly made up of active retirees with a sense of fun. Each week there is a different topic, eg next week Historic Cathedrals and Churches then TV Game shows on 25 July.

Mullis and Peake LLP Solicitors generously sponsor the group, which enables the museum to keep the price of the two hour event to £3 per week, including refreshments.

Ellen said, “Our reminiscence group are great and very tuned in to scams of today but it was helpful for everyone to be reminded of the basic and new scam, share their concerns and ask questions about the newer scams.”

Havering Board Director, Jane Keane praised Ellen’s work with the reminiscence group. Jane said, “The Museum has a great contribution to make to the well-being and safety of local residents. It’s great to see Metropolitan Police PCSO’s Ann and Sue in the Museum listening to members’ concerns and suggesting practical ways that they can keep themselves safe.”
