Unreliable 103 Bus Service Needs Urgent Shake Up-Margaret Mullane MP
The Member of Parliament for Dagenham and Rainham, Margaret Mullane has been asked to intervene with Transport for London by local residents who are users of the 103 bus service and have been repeatedly let down.
The irregularity of the service at key times during weekdays has resulted in local people being late for work and students arriving late at schools and colleges. In response to this being brought to Margaret’s attention she had contacted Transport for London (TfL) to find out what was causing the problems and how these were going to be fixed.
TfL admitted that the 103 bus service was not meeting the minimum performance standards for excess waiting times (the length of time to wait for a bus service after its scheduled arrival time). With this being due to earlier in the year, route 103 was impacted by mechanical issues on the buses that serve the route. The operator, Arriva London, had focused on addressing this issue by implementing a programme of additional checks on its vehicles and additional contractors to assist this work. TfL stated that this resulted in some improvements and hoped to see this continue.
However, recent reports from constituents claim that problems persist.
Margaret said “I have been raising this issue for over 6 months. This is causing real inconvenience to local people needing a reliable bus service to get to work, school and colleges. So I have escalated the matter at City Hall and want to see real sustained improvement for the 103 bus service.”
