For the past year the Plant-Based Councils campaign has been asking for Mayor Sadiq Khan to announce the need for the London Assembly to transition to plant-based internal catering

In July 2024 the London Assembly released a climate report that did not mention the importance of plant-based catering in response to the climate crisis when animal agriculture is one of the leading causes of the climate crisis.

On 20/03/2025 London Assembly Member Zack Polanski requested for the Mayor, to consider the more climate friendly policy of transitioning to plant-based catering, but the Mayor refused to acknowledge that this is a necessary step, citing consumer choice as the main reason that they will not take this step

In response to this, the Plant-Based London Assembly campaign took to the streets of Marble Arch on 15 June, to gain signatures to show the Mayor that he needs to enact policies that are in line with his climate commitments and announce that the London Assembly should go plant based

Havering is at risk of serious flooding as a result of the climate crisis and with temperatures expected to soar to 30 degrees Celsius next week, it is the Mayor of London’s responsibility to take drastic action to protect the people of Havering and London.
