As summer finally arrives across Havering and temperatures rise, our Fire Chief Paul McClenaghan advises residents to have a safe summer. The Borough Commander spoke to the Havering Daily about the small, but very important steps residents can take to stay safe.

“We want everyone to have a great summer, but it is also important that they have a safe one. There are steps residents can take to make sure they and their properties are safe.

  • Keep your grass short where ever you can.
  • Please do not use temporary BBQs.
  • Do not use temporary BBQs on grass.
  • Do not leave items on charge in the heat-not directly in the sun.
  • Avoid jumping into lakes. You do not know how deep they are and run the risk of getting cold water shock.
  • If you are having picnics or eating out, please take your rubbish with you. Do not leave glass bottles out.
  • Please keep hydrated.

“Of course we want everyone across Havering to have a great summer, but please take steps to make sure that you have a safe summer.”
