Andrew Rosindell MP Urges Government To Urgently Release Much Needed £35M For Queen’s Hospital A&E Redevelopment.
Andrew Rosindell, Member of Parliament for Romford, has renewed his call for urgent government action following a meeting with Health Minister Karin Smyth MP. Mr. Rosindell was joined by Matthew Trainer, Chief Executive of the Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, to press the case for the release of £35 million in funding for the long-overdue redevelopment of the Accident & Emergency Department at Queen’s Hospital in Romford.
Speaking after the meeting, Mr. Rosindell said:
“I was pleased that Matthew Trainer was able to accompany me to the long-awaited meeting with Karin Smyth, Minister for Health, yesterday to plead with the government to release £35 million in funding for the desperately needed A&E redevelopment at Queen’s Hospital.
Matthew and I explained that, despite the best efforts of the amazing team at Queen’s, the existing A&E is simply unable to cope with increasing numbers of patients. This funding would allow the hospital to rapidly begin work on revamping the A&E, undoubtedly saving lives by cutting unacceptably long waiting times and ending the appalling practice of patients being treated on trolleys in corridors.
I am relieved that the Minister has promised to explore new ways in which this project could be funded, and I urge her to come back to us as quickly as possible so that work on this vital project can commence in the coming months.
I will continue to support the campaign for a new A&E Department at Queen’s in any way I can for as long as it takes to secure the necessary funding so that the people of Romford, Havering and the wider area are able to access the best and fastest possible NHS services they rightly deserve.”
The proposed redevelopment is seen as a critical step in addressing the growing pressures on emergency care services in the region, and Mr. Rosindell reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that local residents receive the healthcare infrastructure they urgently need.
