Residents who live next to St Andrew’s Park are furious at delivery riders who cut through to a neighbouring road by riding their mopeds across a footpath and pedestrian bridge.

The bridge is found between Burnway and Woodhall Crescent and is used consistently by parents with buggies, dog walkers and pensioners walking either into Hornchurch town centre, or back into Emerson Park.

Peter, a local residents who lives near the bridge and has witnessed the moped riders, told the Havering Daily: “There are posts there that clearly tells them that this is not an access path for moped riders. It is a footpath and bridge for pedestrians. It is used everyday by parents bringing their children to school, dog walkers using the park and many pensioners who use it to walk into Hornchurch. This is not an access road for moped delivery riders.”

Peter was so angry, that he actually confronted two of them and told them to get off the footpath. “I told them to get off and that I would be calling the police. One wasn’t interested and totally ignored me, and the other I don’t think had much English and did not understand me.”

Peter and other residents fear for those who could be struck by a moped as they are crossing the bridge. He continued: “Children go to school on their scooters, if a bike comes across here, that child could be injured. So could a pensioner out walking their dog.

“This is not acceptable, we need metal bars put up to stop these riders from accessing this bridge, before someone is seriously injured.”
