Havering celebrates Pride Month
Havering Council has raised the Progress Pride flag above the Town Hall to mark the start of Pride Month 2025, reaffirming its commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion across the borough.
On Monday 2 June, Deputy Mayor of Havering, Councillor Barry Mugglestone, joined council staff and local community representatives outside Havering Town Hall in Romford to officially raise the flag. The ceremony marks the beginning of a month-long celebration of the LGBTQ+ community and their contributions to society.
Pride Month is a time to honour the progress made in the fight for equality while recognising the ongoing challenges many LGBTQ+ people still face. The flag-raising serves as a visible show of support for the community and a statement of solidarity in the continued pursuit of inclusion and human rights for all.
As part of this year’s celebrations, Havering Council will once again be taking part in Pride in London next month, where staff, councillors and partners will join hundreds of organisations in promoting acceptance and inclusivity in the capital.
Locally, Romford Pride 2025 will take place on Saturday 28 June from 12pm to 5pm at Romford Market. The event, organised by Kaleidoscope, is free and open to everyone, aiming to create a welcoming and safe space to celebrate love, identity, and community.
Deputy Mayor Cllr Barry Mugglestone said:
“We proudly raise and fly the Progress Pride flag to mark Pride Month in Havering. This ceremony is an expression of celebration, joy and triumph but also an acknowledgement of the continued fight for justice, equality and acceptance.”
Havering Council encourages residents to attend and show their support throughout the month and at local events. Pride is not only a celebration—it is a reminder that everyone has a part to play in creating a more inclusive borough.

Frankly, is it needed now?. Certainly in the past there was discrimination, but today, especially in Two Tier Keir’s Britain, with so many homosexuals in his Cabinet, it seems to be almost compulsory in public life.
Totally agree.No need to promote it. Council supposed to be skint but can waste money and time promoting it
So, where’s the Romford MP ? This is a man who’d turn-up to a flagpole if someone was running up a soiled nappy, yet he seems to be conspicuous by his absence.
