Havering Museum Manager Urges Local Residents To Support The Conservation, Preservation And Protection Of Our Heritage.
Havering has 11 conservation areas which have been designated because of their special architectural or historic interest.
Consultations are being held across the area now with the aim of keeping these special orders in place.
Holding the Council’s Romford Conservation Area Consultation Document is Ann Young, the Havering Museum Volunteer Manager.
Ann, a volunteer herself, told the Havering Daily: “The Museum has a vested interest in the preservation and enhancement of Romford. We are therefore pleased to be able to support the Council’s consultation by hosting documents relating to the consultation exercise here in the Museum.”
The Havering Museum tells the story of Havering through objects and displays. Its precious collection is displayed in the former Sports and Social Club of the old Brewery Buildings, at 19-21 High Street, Romford. These buildings are locally listed and make a positive contribution to Romford’s special and unique character. Its nearest notable neighbours are The Woolpack, The Bitter End, (formerly the White Hart) and the Golden Lion; this public house, still much frequented, stands on the historic cross roads from which the town radiates in four directions.
Havering Museum, a popular visitor attraction celebrates its fifteenth anniversary this year. A special joint anniversary event with the Friends of Havering Museum, also celebrating its 25th Anniversary, is being held on Saturday 7th June 2025 for invited guests.
The Conservation Area Exercise being conducted by the Council covers three separate Conservation Areas, Romford, Rainham and Gidea Park. All the documents can be viewed and commented on-line at www.havering.gov.uk/consultation. The deadline for comments is 9th June 2025 at 11.59pm.
