Romford Councillor Launches Road Safety Survey To Ask Residents Their Views On Road Repairs And Maintenance.
Thousands of Romford residents will be given a say on road repairs and maintenance, as Councillor David Taylor launches a Romford Road Survey.
Local councillors have previously been asked by the administration to identify 3 roads in their ward, to be prioritised for repair and maintenance by the council. In response to the ask, Councillor Taylor has launched a comprehensive road survey of his St Edward’s ward.
Over the next month, Councillor Taylor has vowed to visit over 2000 homes across Romford. His survey asks residents to identify roads they want prioritised, as well as asking them to outline the issues such as potholes, faded markings, or damaged kerbs.
Councillor Taylor has made a commitment to then visit the top 10 most requested roads and to ensure that these are put on the council’s radar.
Councillor Taylor told the Havering Daily:
“Giving residents a voice in this process is the right thing to do and I will be making sure that my residents voices are heard loud and clear.
Damaged roads cause a whole load of headaches, from damaging cars through to putting people’s lives at risk.
I believe in delivering solutions to actual problems, and I care about our town. Romford is my home, I am in my ward every day, and I will always play my part in making it a great place to live.”
Having already received close to 100 reports in the first week, the replies highlight the size of the problem.
72% of residents report cracked or uneven road surfaces
56% of residents report potholes in their streets
24% reported damaged kerbs
And 19% have reported blocked drains
Other reports include dangerous road crossings, poor repair jobs, and overgrown trees and bushes preventing people using prams and mobility scooters.
“There’s a lot for us to be sorting here”, Councillor Taylor continued, “I’ll make sure every one of these issues makes it to the town hall.
If someone reports an issue from another ward, I’ll make sure it goes to their relevant Councillor. Making our town a better place to live goes beyond party politics”.
Councillor Taylor is self-funding his survey and residents can reply online at www.davidtaylor.online/road-survey .
