Assault Revealed As Leading Cause Of Met Police Officer Injuries While On Duty As Shocking Figure Hits Three-Year-High

A total of more than 14,100 Metropolitan Police officer injuries have been recorded in the last three years. Truly shocking figures than people are not calling out.

London’s Metropolitan Police has seen a concerning rise in the number of police officers injured while on duty, with the figure now the highest it has been in three years.

The most common cause of Met Police officer injuries are physical assaults, which have risen by 48 per cent since 2022. 

According to the Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW) which represents police officers, forces are being “pushed to breaking point and enough is enough.”

New data obtained by Accident at Work Claim UKthrough Freedom of Information requests reveals that between 2022 and 2024, a total of 14,199 Met Police officer injuries were recorded.

The leading cause of injury while on duty is physical  assault, accounting for 6,795 cases (48%) since 2022. 

Injuries from lifting and handling were the second most common, resulting in 1,809 incidents.

Other injury causes included; falling from a height, being struck by a moving vehicle, exposure to harmful substances and injuries from an animal.

A total of 4,930 Met Police officer injuries were recorded in 2024, an increase from 2022 when 4,689 injuries were logged.

The figures underline a rising trend in officer harm that has sparked renewed calls for improved workplace safety measures and support services.

These figures are truly shocking and should not be ignored.
