“People make these decisions sitting in offices. They have no idea what the public have to face. Cuts like this will once again impact us—not them.”

Queen’s Hospital Cuts Slammed by Romford Pensioner: ‘You Are So Far From Reality It’s Shocking’
A Romford pensioner has spoken out passionately against the proposed £60 million in cuts to Queen’s Hospital, Romford, describing the situation as “truly shocking” and “completely detached from reality.”
The elderly resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, painted a vivid and disturbing picture of the current state of the hospital and what more cuts could mean for patients—particularly the elderly.
“Whoever wants to enforce these cuts should see the reality of this hospital,” he said. “Do they know what it’s like to wait in a corridor for hours to see someone to help you?”
He shared how dignity is often lost in the overstretched system. “The lack of dignity pensioners and all people face at that hospital. Being asked questions in front of everyone by a nurse asking ‘Have you passed bowel movement’—where is the dignity in that?”
“It is overcrowded beyond belief. People lying everywhere, many bleeding, most in pain. Nurses running about nonstop. You ask someone for help, they disappear and don’t return. You have to wait hours upon hours to have scans, and then even more for the results to arrive.”
The pensioner took aim at decision-makers who, he claims, are too far removed from the harsh reality on the ground. “People make these decisions sitting in offices. They have no idea what people have to face. Cuts like this will once again impact us—not them.”
He warned that more housing developments across Havering are only exacerbating the problem without any accompanying increase in healthcare capacity. “They are building endless amounts of homes, packing people in like sardine cans. Where are the medical facilities to support this? Don’t see them building any hospitals.”
The fear is real, especially among older residents. “No elderly person that I know wants to go there. They are actually scared, terrified of going to Queen’s as they know just how horrendous it is.”
Despite commending the hardworking staff, he stressed that more funding—not less—is desperately needed. “It’s not knocking the nurses—there are some lovely nurses who also need help—but the whole place needs funding. Build more hospitals, stop cutting funds to ones that are on their knees. You are so far from reality it is truly shocking.”
With Queen’s Hospital already stretched to its limits, voices like this pensioner’s shine a glaring spotlight on the human cost of continued healthcare cuts in East London.
