The Mercury Celebrates VE Day In Style With Music And Dancing!
The Mercury Shopping Centre in Romford marked VE Day in memorable fashion with a heartwarming musical celebration that brought together members of the local community for a morning of remembrance and joy.
Held from 11am to 1pm, the event featured a live performance stage with entertainment by local singing duo In 2 the Blue and students from Hylands Primary School. Shoppers, community groups, and visitors enjoyed a medley of popular songs spanning from the 1940s to present day.

The celebration welcomed attendees from The Mercury’s Breakfast Club and local Age UK group Di’s Diamonds, as well as passersby who stopped to enjoy the festivities. Union Jacks, tea, and nostalgic melodies created a vibrant atmosphere in honour of Victory in Europe Day.
Gemma Brooks, Marketing and Tenant Liaison at The Mercury, commented:
“The VE Day celebrations at The Mercury have been incredibly special. The performances from our talented dancers and singers truly captured the spirit of the day. It was heartwarming to see so many people, including our local community clubs, come together to watch, reflect and join in. We’re proud to honour this moment in history and grateful to everyone who helped make it so memorable.”

Natalie Bays, Centre Manager at The Mercury, added:
“We were delighted to host this celebration and that so many people could join us for a day of music and remembrance as we honour Victory in Europe Day.”
The Mercury Shopping Centre remains committed to fostering community connection and commemorating important historical events through inclusive and engaging celebrations.
