Havering Labour Councillors Jane Keane and Matt Stanton, as trustees of the LUCAS play site charity, are pleased to see the start of improvement works to Hylands Park, in the form of a brand new swing set.

Following a meeting on site with Parks officers in September 2024, the councillors had emphasised the need for accessible and inclusive equipment on site, and the new cradle seats are ideal for younger children.

“Hylands Park is used by many residents of my St Albans ward, as well as those travelling from elsewhere” said Cllr Keane, “and it’s great to see such a lovely, multi-purpose space being improved”.

Hylands Park was once used as a trotting track for horses, and includes facilities for tennis, cricket, and football, as well as a play area.

“Play is so important for children to develop all sorts of skills” said Beam Park Cllr Matt Stanton, “and the Parks team have been very proactive in reaching out with us to listen to parents of children of all abilities to make sure that no one is left out”.

Future plans for the park also include a hedge maze, which will also feature many wildflowers to help bees and other pollinating insects to thrive.
