“Despite THREE 999 Calls, No One Came”: Wennington Residents Outraged as Police ‘Lack of Resources’ Leaves No One To Cover Scrambler Bike Chaos.

Fed-up Wennington locals are demanding urgent action over groups of scrambler bike riders tearing up local fields every Sunday afternoon, disturbing wildlife, residents, and even risking fire beneath pylons.

For years now, residents living near the open fields behind Wennington have been subjected to the same chaos every weekend. At around 2pm each Sunday, a van reportedly arrives, unloading bikes and riders who spend the afternoon and evening revving across the land until late into the night.

Locals say the bikes aren’t just noisy – they’re dangerous. Horses grazing in the field have been disturbed, riders have lit barbecues on site, and shockingly, one group even lit a fire directly under a pylon.

With little to no police response, the situation has left many feeling abandoned.

“I called 999 three times last week and no one came. We have been begging and pleading with the police to do something but nothing is done,” one resident told The Havering Daily. “They come at the same time every week and go round and round the fields for hours. They bring barbecues and start those and even lit a fire underneath a pylon. It really is awful. They break in across the fence, which they aren’t supposed to do, and from there ride for hours.”

Another resident described an infuriating incident where “a police van came to the area, looked from their van at the scramblers and then drove off – and that was the last we saw of them.”

Despite multiple complaints and warnings, police have allegedly done little, citing a lack of resources. Last week, local MP Margaret Mullane met with residents to witness the destruction and trespassing for herself. She confirmed the land is privately owned and that no permission has been granted to use it in this way.

Margaret has been actively liaising with police, but told residents she had been informed that no action has been taken because of limited officer availability. No police representatives were available to attend the meeting with concerned locals and Margaret on Friday.

In response, her office will now be working with local fire services to explore what support can be provided in the short term, particularly as residents fear another fire could easily be sparked in the current dry conditions – potentially with devastating consequences.

This repeated illegal activity is not just a nuisance; it is putting lives and homes at risk. With warm weather continuing and little sign of enforcement, residents say their patience has run out.

Councillor Jackie McArdle told the Havering Daily: “I am working closely with Margaret and her team alongside the landowner of the field, local police and fire brigade to combat the bikers that are terrorising the residents by riding across the fields all weekend.
Not only is this an awful disturbance it is also very worrying when you consider they bring extra petrol with them, the grass is bone dry and considering the fires a few years ago this is very worrying and irresponsible,”

The message from Wennington is clear: enough is enough. It’s time for the authorities to act.
