“The photographs speak for themselves,” said Mr. Rosindell. “What we are witnessing is a shameful and unacceptable descent into squalor.”

Romford, Wednesday 30 April 2025 – Andrew Rosindell M.P., Member of Parliament for Romford, has issued a stark warning to local authorities and public bodies over the escalating state of neglect blighting Romford town centre.

Following his own experiences, a number of disturbing reports and photographic evidence submitted by concerned residents, Mr. Rosindell is demanding immediate and decisive action to restore Romford to the clean, safe, and welcoming town it once was.

“The photographs speak for themselves,” said Mr. Rosindell. “What we are witnessing is a shameful and unacceptable descent into squalor. Fly-tipping, broken drainage, dangerous infrastructure, dog fouling, overgrown vegetation, and widespread litter – this is not the Romford I grew up in, and it is not the Romford residents deserve.”

Mr. Rosindell has formally requested a walkabout with the Chief Executive of Havering Council, Mr. Andrew Blake-Herbert and local stakeholders, to personally inspect the worst-affected areas.

“There can be no more excuses, no more buck-passing between TfL, private landowners and the Council. Romford is in crisis. When a burnt-out bin with exposed metal spikes is left in public for months, when subways remain flooded, and when public footpaths are rendered hazardous by overgrown council-owned vegetation, someone must take responsibility,” said the MP.

While acknowledging some recent improvements in litter collection, Mr. Rosindell warned that the situation has reached a tipping point and called for “urgent, coordinated and radical measures” to clean up Romford and restore pride in the town.

“It is appalling that basic maintenance and cleanliness have been left to voluntary groups like the Romford Wombles and local residents, who collect sack-loads of rubbish on their own initiative while public bodies pass the buck. Romford is not a dumping ground. It is our home. I will not stand by while this decline continues.”

Mr. Rosindell has tasked his office to press for an urgent meeting with Havering Council and will ensure full accountability on behalf of Romford’s residents.
