Havering Deserves Better: End The Second Class Transport Treatment.

Once again, Havering is being treated like London’s poor relation when it comes to public transport — and residents have had enough.

While shiny, brand-new buses roll out across central London and other boroughs, Havering is left with ageing hand-me-down vehicles.
When Transport for London (TfL) invests in new, eco-friendly buses, they are first sent to inner London to meet tighter environmental rules and higher profile demand. Meanwhile, older vehicles — often more worn and less efficient — are shuffled off to outer boroughs like Havering.

It’s hard not to feel like we’re being taken for granted. Havering residents pay taxes like every other Londoner — why should we settle for second best?

And the problems don’t stop with buses. Havering has some of the poorest transport links in the capital:

  • Barely any Underground services: Only Upminster and Elm Park sit on the London Underground network, while other boroughs enjoy criss-crossing Tube lines.
  • Limited rail options: While parts of Havering benefit from the Elizabeth line, services are still patchy compared to the Underground network elsewhere.
  • Longer travel times: Being on the edge of Greater London often means longer, more complicated journeys into the city centre — with fewer reliable options.
  • Chronic underinvestment: For too long, transport investment has been focused on Zones 1 and 2, with outer boroughs like Havering pushed to the bottom of the pile.

The lack of modern public transport not only impacts quality of life but also limits economic opportunities for our community. Better transport means easier commutes, more access to jobs, and stronger local economies — yet Havering is consistently overlooked.

The message to TfL and City Hall must be clear: enough is enough.

Havering needs:

  • Modern, clean buses for Havering — not just London’s cast-offs.
  • Fairer investment in outer boroughs — not just central London.
  • Real action, not just promises — because Havering residents deserve the same high standards as anyone else in London.
