Havering’s Schools Admissions team processed 3,212 applications and were able to offer 89.1% of applicants their first choice of school, while a whopping 98.8% were offered one of their listed preferences of school – this was an improvement on last year’s figure of 97.7%.

Only 44 children were allocated to a school they had not applied for, although this is also an improved position compared to last year, when 76 children could not be allocated an applied-for school.

The team offered 118 places to out-of-borough schools.

Councillor Oscar Ford, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said:

“It is a real challenge to find the best fit for all, but once again our schools admissions team has met the challenge in securing schools for thousands of children starting school this September.

“The demand for excellent teaching and school environment remains high and we are pleased that we have been able to offer most pupils and parents one of the schools of their choice.

“My thanks go out to the School Admissions Team who have once again worked hard to successfully deliver the school place allocations on time.”
