“I’m very grateful for people’s support. It really restores your faith in humanity.”

A devoted grandfather from Harold Hill is preparing to walk from the Rainham War Memorial to Tower Bridge to raise money for a cause close to his heart—Cystic Fibrosis.

Colin, whose grandson was born with cystic fibrosis in October last year, has watched the baby spend the majority of his life in hospital. The little boy is currently being treated at Royal London Hospital, as Queen’s Hospital in Romford does not have the facilities to provide the specialist care he needs.

Speaking to The Havering Daily, Colin said: “He is being treated at the Royal London as Queen’s Hospital do not have the ability to help him. Unfortunately, he has spent most of his young life inside the hospital.”

Determined to give back to the charity that has supported his daughter and family through this difficult time, Colin has pledged to walk the 20 mile route on 19 July alongside his friend Matthew and eldest daughter Kerry.

“They have been really fantastic supporting my daughter and I really want the chance to give back to them as a way of saying thank you.”

Originally hoping to raise £500, Colin has already exceeded that target—raising £1,400 so far.

“I am very grateful for people’s support. It really restores your faith in humanity.”

His journey not only highlights the vital work done by Cystic Fibrosis charities but also the power of community, resilience, and love in the face of hardship.
