Prolific Shoplifter Jailed After Breaching Criminal Behaviour Order Stealing Over £200 Of Meat In Hornchurch.
Mohamed Awaleh, of Mayesbrook Road, Dagenham has been handed a six month prison sentence for theft and breaching his Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO).
Awaleh is a prolific shoplifter and due to his persistent anti social behaviour and constant criminal activity, a CBO was granted preventing him entering numerous high street supermarkets.
He was identified by officers at a recent theft incident where he stole over £200 worth of meat products. St Andrews and Upminster safer neighbourhood teams have worked tirelessly building a case against Awaleh and using their local knowledge to identify him in numerous CCTV clips to put him in front of the courts.
The breach of CBO was dealt with by the Havering CBO panel.
The CBO Panel is a multi-agency panel consisting of police, our partners in the local council, substance misuse support agencies and mental health services. It sits monthly to discuss CBO applications to ensure that the conditions imposed are proportionate and appropriate to address the offenders behaviour. They also seek to address the route cause of the offenders behaviour by diverting those into drugs, alcohol or mental health services where appropriate. CBO Panels now sit on numerous London boroughs having started in Havering in February 2024 as part of our Clear Hold Build initiative.
Sergeant Sehmby from local safer neighbourhoods said
“Upminster and Hornchurch SNT worked with businesses and partners to identify the subject and bring him before the court. The work put together by the team takes a considerable time and effort but remains a priority for the teams across their wards to support the community in bringing offenders to justice”.
Acting Chief Inspector Charlie Routley said
“This is another example of how effective the use of CBOs can be at dealing with persistent offenders. It also showcases that the Havering CBO Panel not only secures orders against those persistent offenders causing issues within our communities but also provides grip and governance over any breaches of CBOs, ensuring offenders are promptly arrested and put back before the court to be dealt with”.
