A Harold Hill resident has been left heartbroken and traumatised after her beloved dog was savagely attacked on a morning walk, leaving him with severe injuries and in need of urgent medical treatment.
Last Wednesday, 2nd April, Ashley was walking her small dog along Straight Road in Harold Hill at around 7am, heading towards a nearby park when the shocking incident occurred.
A tearful Ashley told the Havering Daily:
“We were just heading to the park when this large dog, I think it was a cross between a Dobermann and an Alsatian, came running out into the road. I was worried it would get hit by a car, so I held my hand up to warn traffic. That’s when the dog saw us and came charging towards me and my dog.”
What followed was every dog owner’s nightmare. The larger dog launched a brutal and unprovoked attack.
“He began mauling my dog viciously. I threw myself on top of my dog to shield him. I was lying on the ground trying to protect his tiny body. I just screamed for help—cars stopped and people came out. I ran into a front garden and hid until the dog finally left.”
Ashley’s dog sustained horrific injuries and was rushed by a friend to the vet, where he has remained for days undergoing multiple operations.
“He’s been so badly hurt. He’s my baby. All I’ve done is cry. It’s been absolutely traumatic. The wounds are awful, and he’s needed constant treatment and surgery.”
Initially, the owners of the attacking dog came forward and offered to help with the vet bill. However, Ashley says they soon disappeared after learning the cost of care.
“They told me they wouldn’t pay more than £1,000 and then vanished. They haven’t paid anything at all. I’m left with the bills and the trauma.”
The incident has now been reported to the police.
“I don’t want the dog destroyed,” Ashley added, “but it’s not being properly looked after—and that’s not right.”
This harrowing event has left Ashley and her dog traumatised, raising serious concerns about irresponsible dog ownership and the dangers posed by untrained or poorly supervised animals in public areas.
