Rainham business F H Brundle helps Havering Learning Disability Society with substantial donation.

Beam Park Councillors Trevor Mckeever and Matt Stanton, approached a family business in Rainham for help and they stepped forward with a donation of £3,700 for Havering Learning Disability Society.

Councillor Trevor Mckeever told the Havering Daily:”This all started when we were invited to meet the volunteers and members of the Society at their swimming club, held regularly at the new Rainham Leisure Centre every Saturday. Volunteers explained that the cost of the minibus they provided for members had increased, and that rather than pass the cost on to their disabled members, the charity was seeking donations from supporters.”

The Councillors then approached London Riverside Business Improvement District, which spans Beam Park and Rainham and Wennington wards, asking if any local businesses would be able to support the charity.

“The BiD put us in contact with F H Brundle, and we set up a meeting with the HLDS” explained Cllr Mckeever “and we were very pleased when they agreed to donate £3700, enabling the Charity to keep costs for their members down for this activity.”

F H Brundle was established in 1889 in central London, and the company head office moved to Rainham in 2007, the company is still run by the great-great-grandson of its founder.

As well as the regular swimming club, the Society also has social clubs on a Monday evening and alternate Friday evenings, and regular discos for members. They also hold an annual Christmas Party for 200 people and have a holiday bungalow in Greatstone, Kent. This provides subsidised breaks for members and their families”. Cllr Stanton explained “Like many of our fantastic Havering charities, none of this would happen without the extensive support of volunteers giving their time to help those less fortunate.”

The Society welcomes donations and is always looking for volunteers to help. HLDS can be contacted on hlds1948@gmail.com
