‘We Are Confident The Romford Masterplan Will Bring Positive, Lasting Changes To Romford, Making It A Better Place To Live, Work And Visit’-Councillor Graham Williamson.
Councillor Graham Williamson, Cabinet Member for Regeneration today writes in the Havering Daily on the benefits of the Romford Masterplan.
In response to the Romford Masterplan adoption, I would like to clarify the objectives and benefits of the plan, which was adopted by Cabinet on 12 March.
It is worth reminding readers:
· * We have conducted thorough public consultation with 73 percent of the residents that responded most recently expressing their support for the plan.
· * By improving public spaces, including the market and the River Rom, the Masterplan seeks to enhance green spaces and pedestrian-friendly areas.
· * The Masterplan is committed to protecting Romford’s historical and cultural heritage whilst accommodating modern development needs.
· * The feedback from these consultations has been integral in shaping a vision that truly reflects the community’s needs and aspirations.
· * The plan includes a mix of residential, commercial and public spaces, ensuring that new developments complement existing structures and enhance the overall look and feel of Romford.
· * The focus is on creating a vibrant, sustainable community that attracts significant investment and job opportunities that will in turn boost the local economy. It is expected to bring long-term benefits to residents and businesses alike.
We understand that change can be challenging, but the Romford Masterplan has been designed with the best interests of our community in mind.
Whilst it is very easy to express a concern about the ‘addition of more tower blocks’ which is a very emotive subject and frankly is not what the Masterplan is about. It is actually designed to help us shape and balance development alongside the preservation of Romford’s unique character and history.
A case in point being the discussions with neighbours close to the Como Street development recently led to a reduction in maximum heights for the proposals.
We are confident the RMP will bring positive, lasting changes to Romford, making it an better place to live, work and visit.
