Romford Masterplan Adopted By Cabinet Despite Residents Unhappiness At More Tower Blocks Going Up.
Residents had objected to the building of more tower blocks across Romford stating that the area had already declined and had lost its historic feel. Although parts of the masterplan were agreed with, the biggest anger was that the area, already blighted with tower blocks, would see more going up.
Residents living near Como Street and Linden Way have been objecting to the height of blocks going up around them. Many of whom have lost all privacy in their back gardens and now overlook huge tower blocks instead.
Yesterday, 12 March, Cabinet Members chose to push through the masterplan.
Havering Council have shared the following:
The Romford Masterplan, the comprehensive vision for the future development and regeneration of Romford Town Centre, was formally adopted by Cabinet at last night’s Cabinet meeting [Wednesday 12 March 2025].
It will now be an adopted Supplementary Planning Document that will be applied when determining applications within the Town Centre.
Councillor Graham Williamson, Cabinet Member for Development and Regeneration, said:
“The adoption of the Romford Masterplan will help pave the way for new homes, significant investment and development projects that will benefit the local economy, and enhance the quality of life for residents, whilst continuing to protect the character and history of the town centre.
“I would like to thank residents and stakeholders for helping to shape our masterplan; to make it a robust vision for the future of Romford.”
