EXCLUSIVE-‘Totally Unacceptable’-Orchard Village Residents Left Without Water For 24 Hours.
“The water supply was only connected for four hours out of the last 48 hours, this is totally unacceptable for our residents many of whom have families, and some of which have health issues,”-Councillor Trevor McKeever.
An angry resident living on the Orchard Village estate in Beam Park, contacted the Havering Daily yesterday Wednesday 12 March, to in form us that they had had no water for 24 hours. Residents were left unable to flush toilets, shower or access any form of water supply.
Despite endless complaints to the housing provider Clarion, they were left in limbo not knowing when the water would return. The entire estate was left without water for a whole 24 hours and with the water connected for just four hours in just two days.
A Clarion spokesperson told the Havering Daily: “Due to planned water works on the Orchard Village Estate residents will have experienced some disruption to their water supply in the last two days and we apologise for the inconvenience this may have caused.
“This work by our contractor was scheduled to run 8am to 5pm from Monday March 10th to Thursday March 13th. This work is crucial to ensure the continued function of the water pumps on the estate and will address some intermittent issues residents have been experiencing with their supply.
“Residents were made aware of the work with letters sent on Jan 30th and March 4th, and door knocking calls were made to residents that may have needed additional advice and support on Monday along with notifications by text.
“To account for the planned outage residents were dropped two days’ supply of water to their doors on Monday, with surplus available at Mick Fury House for residents to collect.
“Engineers remain on site and works are expected to be concluded ahead of schedule today at 5pm. Residents will be notified when the water supply is restored.”
Beam Park Labour Councillors Trevor McKeever and Matthew Stanton told the Havering Daily:
“Unfortunately, another debacle after the planned water shut down on Orchard Village.
The water was supposed to be turned back on at 17:00 hours yesterday afternoon unfortunately when the supply was reinstated there were many water leaks that had to be addressed. The water was shut down and reinstated at approximately 20:00 hours last evening.
Problems still persisted and the water was shut down again just after midnight. Councillor Stanton and myself have been liaising with Clarion directly, we have been requesting that bottled water should be issued immediately to residence affected.
We will continue to liaise with Clarion and their partners to have the water supply reinstated as soon as possible .
We urge all residents to report any repairs directly to Clarion in the first instance. Councillor Matthew Stanton and Councillor Trevor Mckeever can be contacted on the following email address
mathew.stanton@havering.gov.uk and trevor.mckeever@havering.gov.uk.
Councillor McKeever added:
“With regards to the amount of water issued, Clarion issued the same amount to a single person as they did a family of four, according to residents. Whilst they state that the outage was only going to be between the hours of 8am until 5pm the water supply has only been connected for, four hours out of the last 48 this is unacceptable.
Going by the guide lines of 10 litres of water per person per day the water distributed has fallen way short of residents requirements.
I am pleased that clarion have now secured a stock of bottled water at Mick Fury House for residents to collect.”
It is believed the water has now returned.
