A fantastic event celebrating International Women’s Day with women from all backgrounds and Faiths was held at Havering Asian Social and Welfare Association (HASWA), yesterday Wednesday 12 March.

Many women gathered together with the opportunity to stand up and share their experiences and then join together for a cup of tea and cakes at the Elm Park hall.

The event was organised by local community champion Manjit who does so much to support women in the area and local ward councillor Stephanie Nunn who works closely with HASWA.

Speakers included PCSO Jackie Whitlock and Councillor Stephanie Nunn amongst others.

Manjit told the Havering Daily:”A lovely afternoon recognising women’s achievements and promoting gender equality under the theme ‘Accelerate Action’.

Councillor Stephanie Nunn told the Havering Daily:

“As in previous years, I was very pleased to celebrate International Women’s Day at HASWA. I was invited to speak and share my experiences of being a Councillor in Havering.

“I was first elected in 2014 and formed a strong bond with HASWA – a community organization in Elm Park, the ward I represent. With Manjit K Singh, Project Development Officer, I have been pleased to start several initiatives including Afternoon Tea and the special IWD lunch. In case you don’t know there are 20 women councillors out of 55 and there have been 15 female mayors, including me in the last 56 years.

“Best wishes for IWD.”

The Havering Daily was proud to join in this fantastic event and stand with women from all backgrounds that have made such a huge contribution to our community.

Well done HASWA!
