Monthly Tea And Cake Afternoon Raises Hundreds For Havering Asian Social And Welfare Association.
Elm Park Councillor Stephanie Nunn hosted her monthly tea and cake event in a bid to raise as much money as possible for Havering Asian Social and Welfare Association (HASWA).
The HASWA afternoon tea group were delighted to have raised £305 to help in its fund-raising ambition to buy their hall. HASWA do a truly fantastic job in our community, supporting many people of all Faiths and beliefs.
The group has been meeting for five years since it was started in 2019 by Cllr Nunn and Mrs Manjit Singh.
On the first Tuesday of the month the doors of HASWA are open to all for tea, cake and company. It is often just a friendly social occasion, but the group sometimes has an occasional speaker or raises money for charity.

Recently they have raised money for First Step, St Francis Hospice, Memory Clinic and the Sea Cadets.
When the group heard that HASWA wanted to purchase their hall, they all agreed to hold a fund-raising event to give something back to HASWA. Many of the group attend other activities at HASWA such as lunch club, yoga and singingand value the special community atmosphere in the hall.
Time for tea and homemade cakes!

Councillor Stephanie Nunn told the Havering Daily: “It was a very successful afternoon tea and of course like any event it would not be possible without the helpers. I would like to thank Carol, Pauline, Kulvir, Nimula and Jeff for looking after the tea stall,Barbara, Judy and Sue for making delicious cakes, PCSO Jackie Whitelock for selling raffle tickets, Rose for cakes and running the Bric a Brac stall and Janice and Cllr Barry Mugglestone for their help with the Tombola. I am so pleased that the afternoon went very well, but even more pleased that some people came along for the first time, made new friends and hope to come again.”
Well done to everyone involved!
