Rainham Residents Taken On Special Walk For SANDS Charity.
On Saturday 15 February, Rainham resident Sue Watson, John Robinson, and Beam Park Councillor Matt Stanton, embarked on a special sponsored walk to raise money for SANDS.
The walk was started by Margaret Mullane MP with the group being applauded on return by Yarns and Tales attendees.
SANDS is a special charity that helps to save babies’ lives and support anyone affected by pregnancy loss or the death of a baby. When someone loses a baby it is a devastating and life-change experience. SANDS supports families through their loss. SANDs’ vision is a world where fewer babies die.
This sponsored walk all started as a result of the winter project for ‘Yarns and Tales’, the knitting/crochet group linked to St. Helens and St. Giles Church, Rainham. The project is to knit or crochet white blankets for SANDs to put into their ‘Always Loved, Never Forgotten’ memory boxes for bereaved parents. Yarns and Tales meet on the second Saturday of every month at 10am at The Ship Cafe in Rainham Village.
Sue told the Havering Daily: “I can’t knit or crochet but wanted to support and contribute. Monies raised will cover the cost of postage of the blankets to SANDs HQ, with any additional funding going as direct donation. To lose a child is possibly one of the most painful things you can experience, hence I want to do what I can to support their work.”
She added “Thank you to all who donated to SANDs, it is appreciated.”
Sue and the rest of the group walked from the St Helen and St Giles Church in Rainham Village, to the St Mary and St Peters Church in Wennington, and then back to Rainham Village.
