Upminster Windmill Seeks Volunteers To Help Preserve Local Heritage Site.
Upminster Windmill, one of Havering’s most iconic historical landmarks, is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join its dedicated team. Whether you have a passion for history, enjoy engaging with the public, or simply want to contribute to your local community, this is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a truly unique and rewarding project.
With a range of volunteer roles available, including site guides, educational outreach, and retail & refreshments, there’s something for everyone, no matter your skills or experience. Volunteers play a vital role in keeping this historic windmill running, helping visitors learn about its fascinating past and ensuring that future generations can continue to enjoy and appreciate this special site.
To learn more and get involved, Upminster Windmill is hosting Volunteer Recruitment Days on Saturday 8th February and Saturday 1st March 12pm to 4pm. These sessions, held at Upminster Windmill in the Visitors Centre, offer the perfect chance to meet the team, explore the different volunteer roles, and sign up to be part of this exciting initiative.

Why Volunteer at Upminster Windmill?
•Be Part of Local History; Help share the story of this beautifully restored windmill, which has stood in Upminster since 1803.
•Gain New Skills; Whether you’re interested in public speaking, education, retail, or event management, volunteering provides valuable experience.
•Meet Like-Minded People; Join a friendly, welcoming community of volunteers who share a passion for heritage and local history.
•Make a Difference; Your time and effort directly contribute to maintaining this landmark and keeping it accessible to the public.
Volunteer Roles Available:
•Site Guides – Lead tours of the windmill, sharing its history and mechanics with visitors of all ages. Help with archaeology tours of the site, showcasing how the site was used over the past 220 years.
•Educational Volunteers – Assist with school visits and workshops, helping to bring history to life for young learners. These happen at a variety of times midweek.
•Retail & Refreshments – Support the on-site shop and refreshment area, welcoming visitors and ensuring they have a fantastic experience. This is a vital part of our fundraising.

Upminster Windmill is more than just a historic site, it’s a community hub, a place for learning, and a symbol of the town’s rich past. By volunteering, you’ll be playing an essential role in preserving and promoting this local treasure.
